Author Steven Tingle stopped by the Bunker to talk about his book, Graveyard Fields. And, along the way, Brad and he discussed his circuitous route into writing books, which included stops working at a golf course and writing for luxury brand magazines.

First-timer Tingle deftly evokes both a very particular sense of place and his hero’s irritated inability to finish anything he starts.

In Steven Tingle’s debut, Graveyard Fields, he takes an inept cop turned equally incompetent private investigator, stomps him into the ground, and turns all of his actions into a tragic comedy. I don’t know when I felt so frustrated with a character, and ended up laughing and rooting for him.

For Greenville writer Steven Tingle, knowing the difficulties he would encounter while writing his debut novel might have discouraged him from making the attempt. Instead, armed with only a loose notion of what might lay in store, he began a nearly five-year adventure that culminates in August with the publication of “Graveyard Fields.”

Beer plays a key role in Steven Tingle’s debut novel, Graveyard Fields, which he’ll launch at an author event at Bhramari Brewing Co. on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. The Cruso native has lived in Greenville, S.C., since 2012, making a living as a freelance writer with a focus on luxury travel pieces. But detective novels, he notes, have been a longtime passion.
